Project includes a new headquarters facility for the Readiness Center. Project design includes geothermal heating / cooling system. Project was the first L.E.E.D. “PLATINUM” certified building in the State of Alabama. The project was also awarded a 2012 Clover Award by the Alabama Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. The Clover Award recognizes outstanding projects throughout the state. There were 11 finalists for the award and 4 winners were chosen. Whorton Engineering was responsible for the design of the HVAC system, fire protection system, and plumbing system. We were also the primary L.E.E.D. Coordinator for the project.
Project includes commissioning services for the new 101,000 square foot campus fitness and wellness center. Commissioning services include design phase, construction phase, and occupancy and operations phase. Commissioning focus was on building mechanical systems, building envelope blower door testing, and lighting controls.
Project includes design of new 27,344 SF facility to serve as a consolidated location for 6 different agencies including Tuscaloosa and Northport police and fire departments, University of Alabama Police, Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Northstar Ambulance and the Tuscaloosa County Emergency Management Agency. The facility was designed and built for maximum security. The facility includes conference rooms, dispatch, full kitchen, break room, offices, data center, communications rooms, etc. Whorton Engineering was responsible for the design of the HVAC system, plumbing system, and fire protection system.
